The Brunton Heart Monitor Pedometer is basically exactly that, a heart rate monitor with a pedometer combined. This particular model does not come in the form of a watch like some I have seen, it just looks like a standard pedometer with a flip lid design. I have never used a heart rate monitor or anything of this nature before so this was a shock to the system for me.

I have just started working out and was advised to get something like this to record my step count and also measure my heart rate to make sure I am working at the correct level. I don’t know what the standard features are supposed to be but I think this one is quite basic in terms of features. This is good for me though because I have never used anything like this before, plus I am useless when it comes to technology.

After using it for a couple of weeks and reading through the user manual I figured out some of the features on it, so here they are.

  • Small all in one step counter and heart monitor
  • Measures calories, steps and heart rate
  • Measures distance travelled in miles and km
  • Target heart rate alarm
  • Stop watch and countdown timer

Although I am no expert, I don’t think these functions are much to shout about. I actually don’t have too many good things to say about this heart monitor pedometer.

One of the major problems with it, is that it really does not record overall step count accurately. I walk the same distance on a daily basis and it always seems to measure the distance wrong, therefore measuring the step count wrong.

I figured, if it was getting those measurements wrong then it would no doubt get the heart measurements wrong. I think they were pretty accurate though so no problems there but generally
I am not sure that I would put this product on my recommendation list. I would rather go for a watch design after using this one, because with this you have to clip it on which I wasn’t too keen on.

I wouldn’t say it was difficult to use though, after reading the user guide, I had a pretty good idea of how to use it. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone who is looking for really precise readings to help with overall fitness, or track progress for an up and coming long distance run.

I would say if you are looking for something sophisticated this is not the product for you. If you want cheap and cheerful with basic features then opt for this one. However if you want quality then ignore this one and go for something with a higher price tag.

So, the only good thing I have to say about this heart monitor pedometer, is that it takes good heart rate measurements and it is easy to use. Other than that I wouldn’t give this product the thumbs up.

If you really want to try it out for yourself then you can get it on Amazon for about $20.
